 "with their eyes all a-glow."
The Tahoe Rim Trail 100 is by far the most beautiful ultra I have ever run.  Much of the course followed the crest of the Tahoe Rim with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe to the west and Lake Washoe and the Carson City area to the east.

This is the Bear Creek, Ouray Trail, park of the Hard Rock 100 Course. On clockwise years, most runners climb this trial in the dark. It can be a bit intimidating.
The incredibly beautiful Island Lake below Grant Swamp Pass (12,920 ft, at mile 14.8 of the Hardrock100 mile Endurance Run) is the 2nd pass of 12 passes over 12,000. Even years are run in the clockwise direction, odd years in the counter-clockwise direction. One of what they call a pass is crossing the top of Handie's Peak, 14,028 ft.
